Bead Care
Czech Glass Seed Bead
Care Information
- USE & WEAR Glass made to produce seed beads and the coatings applied to them are both wear resistant. Ordinary cosmetics do not affect the glass or coatings. The glass or the coating also will not chemically interact with fabrics or skin. When used for usual decorative purposes, seed beads are not negatively affected by perspiration. The color will remain stable. However, excessive friction can result in high wear and a partial loss of the surface finish and scratching.
-
CLEANING Dry Cleaning Beaded materials and be dry cleaned using common commercial dry cleaning solutions (non-polar organic solvents). The glass and any coatings will remain stable. Washing Hand wash only. Do not put in a washing machine.
-
STORAGE The shelf life of seed beads will be extended when stored in a dry and dark place. Make sure humidity is low and beads are kept in opaque packaging whenever possible. Exposure to lights and moisture may remove some coatings over time (particularly some metallic colors). Some of the older metallic colors are not colorfast. Look for TERRA metallic colors for higher thresholds for colorfastness. Extra precaution needs to be taken with Silver Lined Beads. If they are exposed to a high moisture, high heat or high light environment, the silver lining may begin to tarnish or change color over time. Furthermore, keep Silver Lined seed beads away from substances containing Sulphur, acid or chlorine, all of which may decay the silver lining.
-
COLOR AND COATING DISCLAIMER Due to the production nature of this product and the impact of environmental elements, the glass color may vary slightly between color lots. The application of coatings such as an iris or luster coating may also be slightly variable – stronger or lighter depending on the lot. These are all industry standard deviations and are to be tolerated.

LEAD & PROPOSITION 65 Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act was passed in California in November 1986. The act requires all those who ship to the State of California to disclose that their products contain lead. Most of Preciosa Ornela seed products are lead free, but some striped seed beads do have trace amounts of lead. The following products are LEAD FREE:
-
All seed bead tubes in all uniform colors and all products made from them.
-
Seed bead striped tubes with red and/or black stripes only and all products made from them.
-
All coatings, decors and linings applied to seed beads. Striped seed beads (with the exception of red or black stripes, do contain variable amounts of PbO). These are not considered to be lead free. More information on Proposition 65 can be found on the website for California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.
